About

Why this exists.

Because a website for a local business is not a complicated thing to build, and somewhere along the way it started being sold like one.

Why I started this

I started Capital City Computing in 2025 after running into the same thing again and again: local businesses with no website at all, or with a WordPress site that kept getting hacked, broke every time a plugin updated, or had been left running on a PHP version and WordPress core years out of date. I found more than a few of those.

By day I’m a senior engineer at a local MSP, so I see small businesses struggle with their websites, and struggle to find solid support for them, all the time. This is my way of doing something about it. I don’t think a good website should cost a small business a fortune, and nine times out of ten it doesn’t need WordPress at all. It only creates headaches down the line.

What usually happens

You need a website. So either you pay an agency a few thousand dollars and wait two months to see anything, or you buy a builder subscription and a theme and end up doing it yourself at eleven at night.

Either way, the thing you actually wanted — for someone nearby to find you and pick up the phone — never quite happens, and you are still paying for it every month.

What I think instead

A site for a local business is a handful of pages, some real photos, a phone number and a form that works. That is not a piece of software. It does not need a database, an admin panel, or a plugin subscription, and building it as plain files means there is nothing sitting there waiting to break.

Which is the point. Money that would have gone on maintaining the thing goes into whether it actually brings you work: whether you turn up when someone searches, whether it makes sense on a phone, whether anyone calls.

I have nothing against WordPress. If you genuinely need three people publishing every week, tell me and I will build you one properly and look after it.

Whatever I build, when something needs changing you talk to me, the same person who built it. I will work with small businesses anywhere in the US, but most of mine are within an hour of Tallahassee, and I prefer it that way. It is easier to build something honest about a place you can drive to and photograph yourself.
